FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Scott Laugenour, Lenox resident and Green-Rainbow Party candidate for State Representative in the 4th Berkshire District, supports the campaigns of Patsy Harris for Register of Deeds in the Berkshire Middle District and of Bill Shein for US Congress in the First Congressional District.

“I shall be writing in the names of these two candidates on the September 6 primary ballot of the Green-Rainbow Party, where I will also vote for myself for State Representative. I encourage all voters who are given the Green-Rainbow Party primary ballot in Patsy’s and Bill’s respective districts to consider doing the same,” Laugenour remarked.

No Green-Rainbow candidate for these two offices qualified for the ballot in the districts that include Lenox. The winner of the Democratic Party primary for these races will be unopposed in the November 6 general election.

“These are personal endorsements of these two candidates whom I have come to know,” he added, noting that the Green-Rainbow Party itself does not endorse candidates from other parties.

Laugenour continued, “As a homeowner in Lenox who has had the opportunity to file with the Register on several occasions, I know how important it is for the office to be run by someone fully knowledgeable and experienced. Patsy Harris is the candidate with 28 years of experience; working within the Registry of Deeds as a paralegal, title examiner and for the last 11 years as a member of the staff, currently the Assistant Register of Deeds. My husband, Mark Woodward, understands even more the importance of this knowledge; he worked as a real estate paralegal for 20 years during which time he regularly dealt with different registry offices around the country. Mark has also met Patsy and will also be writing Patsy Harris’ name in on the Green-Rainbow Party primary ballot on September 6.”

Local voters didn’t have a say when it came to political insiders making nefarious appointments at the parole board and at the clerk magistrate’s offices in recent memory, but they do have a say with the election of the Register of Deeds.

“Bill Shein is a strong progressive voice who, with me, will be a fellow champion for real progressive change: for fair taxes, medicare for all, community-driven economic development, and democracy reforms. He is a party outsider trying to work the inside. I got to know Bill very well when we both actively supported Mark Miller’s Green-Rainbow campaign for State Representative in the 3rd Berkshire District last year. Many voters like Bill who still affiliate with the Democratic Party do not like the direction that their party has taken; their party now solicits Wall Street money as actively as the Republican Party does, it has been complicit in allowing our nation’s and our commonwealth’s tax system to become regressive and unfair, and it tolerates votes for budgets that undercut the historic landmark legislation from the last century that it takes credit for.”

The Green-Rainbow Party State Committee formally adopted an internal neutrality and fairness proposal on June 23, partly in response to observing unfair non-neutral actions of incumbent-favoring insiders within the Massachusetts Democratic Party that led Mr. Shein to boycott his own party's state convention last month.

“When looking at the November 6 choices for State Representative in the 4th Berkshire District and the September 6 choices for US Congress in the First Congressional District, voters have a choice between keeping things the way they are or voting for real progressive change.”

Prior to launching his campaign this year, Laugenour served the Green-Rainbow Party on its Candidate Development Committee. “We’re a young growing opposition party that is always on the look-out for candidates and leaders to embody our values* whether in elected or appointed office, in debate, and in the hard fight for political power,” Laugenour noted. “The Green-Rainbow Party’s welcome mat for future election is rolled out for both Patsy Harris and Bill Shein, and to candidates like them throughout the state.”

Lee Scott Laugenour and Mark Woodward have placed Patsy Harris and Bill Shein signs in their front yard in Lenox, along with a Laugenour campaign sign.
All three political parties in Massachusetts hold primary elections this year on September 6. The general election is on November 6.
